Open LetterClash and tap New game. You can be matched with another player or invite someone to a private match. Once a game starts, you and your opponent take turns building words on the board.
LetterClash is turn-based, so you can play at your own pace — there's no clock forcing you to move right away. When it's your turn, we send a "your turn" notification so you know it's time to play. You can have several games going at once and jump between them whenever you like.
Every tile on the board is worth its letter's point value. Your own tiles score nothing on their own — the points come from capturing an opponent's tile, which earns you that tile's value. Play words that let you take over your opponent's high-value tiles to pull ahead.
Notifications are controlled in the app's Settings. Open Settings and toggle turn notifications on or off at any time. (You can also manage notification permissions for LetterClash in your device's system Settings.)
Every day you get one 11×11 grid with fifteen theme words hidden in it, and fifteen jigsaw pieces in the tray below. Each piece has exactly one square per letter, so a four-square piece is a four-letter word. Drag a piece out of the tray and drop it over the letters where you think its word hides. The black squares are walls — nothing is ever placed on one.
Nothing on the board tells you — Submit does. A piece that's home locks in place, ticks off its tray card and claims the word it covers. A piece that isn't flashes red, stays loose, and the submit is counted against you. A perfect patch is fifteen words claimed with no wrong submits.
You may only have one unsubmitted piece on the board at a time. Settle the loose one first — submit it, or tap it to send it back to the tray — and the next piece will come out. The tray flashes the piece that's in the way so you can see which one it means.
No. PatchWord is never played against a clock — take as long as you like. The only thing scored is how many submits came back wrong.
Tap Words to swap the tray for the list of words you've claimed so far, each painted in the color of the piece covering it. Tap a word to spotlight that piece on the board; tap it again to clear. Close the list with the × to get the tray back.
Yes — Give up fills the whole board in and reveals every word. It takes two taps to confirm, and the day is then recorded as revealed rather than solved. Reset (also two taps) clears the board and lets you start the day over.
Yes. Open the Archive tab and pick any past date. Replaying an archived day never overwrites the result you already have for it.
No. Play as Guest from the sign-in screen and the whole game is available with no account at all. Signing in with Apple, Google or an emailed code just lets your streak and history follow you to another device.
Yes. Every puzzle ships inside the app, so the day's grid loads with no connection. You'll need to be online only to sign in or sync your history.
You can permanently delete your account and all associated data from inside either app, or by emailing us. Full instructions for both games are on our Account & Data Deletion page.
